When the former Illini will make his Summer League debut

A summer tradition like no other: the NBA Summer League.

I’ve always enjoyed watching it; I think it’s fun to have basketball in the middle of the summer with players I enjoyed watching in college.

But in recent years, there haven’t been many former Illini competing in California, Salt Lake City and then Las Vegas for the NBA’s rookie and youth player program.

This year we have FOUR:

  • Terrence Shannon Jr. with the T-Wolves: 3 p.m. Friday vs. New Orleans (ESPN2)
  • Giorgi Bezhanishvili with the Pacers: 6 p.m. Friday against Brooklyn (NBA TV)
  • Marcus Domask with the Bulls: 2:30 p.m. Saturday against Milwaukee (NBA TV)
  • Quincy Guerrier with the Raptors: 6:30 p.m. Saturday against Oklahoma City (NBA TV)

Guerrier is expected to be part of the Summer League roster, but the Raptors have yet to make it official.

Excerpt from NBA.com:

The 20th NBA Summer League will feature all 30 NBA teams, each playing five games. After each team plays four games from July 12-19, the top four teams will advance to the playoffs and compete in the semifinals on Sunday, July 21 at 2:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. ET. The two winning teams from the semifinals will meet in the championship game on Monday, July 22 at 9:00 p.m. ET. The 26 teams that do not qualify for the four-team playoffs will play a fifth game on Saturday, July 20 or Sunday, July 21.

It should be fun to watch these guys compete, including Giorgi who gets another chance to make an NBA team.
