Burglary caught on camera in Morningside/Lenox-Park: Not the only incident

ATLANTAA family in the Morningside/Lenox-Park neighborhood filmed their home being burglarized, but they say they’re not the only ones in the neighborhood who were targeted.

In fact, according to data from the Atlanta Police Department, 14 homes in the Morningside/Lenox-Park neighborhood have been burglarized this year alone.

“The phone started ringing around 3:30 in the morning,” Robert said.

While still on July 4th vacation, Robert and Elaine received a wake-up call that no one wants to receive.

“I felt sick seeing pictures of someone in our house with a flashlight moving really fast,” Elaine said.

The couple asked FOX 5 to use only their first names because they fear they will be targeted again.

They watched the first videos from their surveillance cameras showing their Wildwood Road home being burglarized Friday morning.

In the video, the burglar can first be seen sneaking into his neighbor’s yard to enter his garden, before entering through his back door.

He then searches the house for valuables. A few minutes later, he leaves the house.

“He was in and out in four and a half minutes. He targeted our room first and took a bunch of jewelry, watches. It’s sickening,” Elaine said.

The couple estimates their losses at tens of thousands of dollars.

But they are not the only ones.

Another neighbor contacted us and said his house had been burglarized in February.

We then looked at APD data and found that there have been 14 burglaries reported in the Morningside/Lenox-park neighborhood since the beginning of 2024.

“About 10 neighbors have contacted us in the last 24 hours to talk about similar operating procedures, similar time slots at night and on holidays. Always Friday, Saturday, Sunday, between 2 and 4 a.m., always within 6 minutes. There are a lot of similarities,” Robert and Elaine said.

Both claim the thief is even wearing the same clothes and backpack seen in the other neighbors’ surveillance video, leading them to believe it’s the same person behind most of them.

“But I fear this guy has been emboldened by his success. And I think it won’t be long before he gets the wrong idea that someone is in the house and it could turn violent,” Robert said.

Robert and Elaine hope the police will do more to try to stop the burglars who seem to be targeting this area.

So far, Robert says he has been unable to reach APD investigators.

FOX 5 reached out to APD about this, and they were able to confirm they are investigating the burglaries, but said we would have to follow up Monday for more information.
