About 98% of SME workers in Singapore offered re-employment in 2022 and 2023: MOM

The ministry said it does not collect PMET-specific data on why workers are not offered re-employment.

In 2022 and 2023, approximately 98% of Singapore’s professionals, managers, executives and technicians (PMETs) have been offered re-employment.

In response to a parliamentary question on statistics related to the re-employment of PMETs, the Ministry of Manpower (MOM) clarified that data prior to 2022 was not available; the data was not initially disaggregated by PMET and non-PMET. The ministry added that it also does not collect PMET-specific data on why workers are not offered re-employment.

However, among all older workers who were not offered re-employment in 2023, eight out of ten did not want to continue working. The others were not offered re-employment for the following reasons:

  • lack of suitable vacancies,
  • employees did not meet job performance requirements, or
  • the employees did not meet medical fitness requirements.

The Ministry of Employment and Social Affairs has assured that it monitors the re-employment rate of eligible elderly people every year.

“The re-employment rate of eligible senior workers has remained consistently high since the introduction of the re-employment policy in 2012 and does not vary significantly from year to year. Where appropriate, we will consider highlighting notable trends in our annual publications.”
