Christian Pulisic’s message to USMNT fans after Copa America exit heightens speculation about Gregg Berhalter’s future: ‘Does this mean he’s gone?’

Christian Pulisic has intensified speculation over Gregg Berhalter’s future as USMNT coach after he sent a message to fans following their Copa America elimination.

The United States crashed and burned at this summer’s home tournament after failing to progress from the group stage, with a 1-0 defeat to Uruguay in Kansas City on Monday sealing their fate.

A shock 2-1 defeat to Panama left the hosts with a mountain to climb in their final group outing against a team brimming with confidence under Marcelo Bielsa.

Their poor performance against Uruguay and subsequent elimination have increased the pressure on Berhalter, who now faces a fight to retain his job ahead of a World Cup on American soil in 2026.

U.S. Soccer Federation officials are reportedly expected to decide his fate within the next week, amid growing calls for him to be dropped.

With speculation about his future already intense, Pulisic appears to have added fuel to the fire by delivering a message to USMNT fans.

The AC Milan forward wrote alongside a photo of himself on his Instagram story: “You deserve and will have better American fans. Better days ahead.”

He then added: “It’s time to rest a little before a big season ahead.”

American fans were torn after Pulisic’s message, with some saying it implies Berhalter is on his way out and others suggesting it is a sign he will stay on as coach.

Someone asked, “Does this mean he’s gone?”

“It’s good, isn’t it?” wrote another.

As one of them jumped to this ambitious conclusion: “WE’RE GOING TO GET KLOPP!”

Others, however, have taken a different position.

“He wouldn’t apologize if Gregg left… I don’t like that,” one user commented.

Another said: “I think he’s staying!! Looks like Pulisic posted this to show his support!”

“It makes me nervous, Greg is coming back…” said a third.

While one of them joked: “He’s staying, get ready for more Berhalter ball.”

No indication has been given and no serious rumors have suggested a decision one way or the other as to whether Berhalter is staying or going.

But there have been calls from across American soccer for the 50-year-old to step down or be sacked after his embarrassing performance at the Copa America.

This includes American football legends Clint Dempsey, Alexi Lalas and Carli Lloyd on the FOX Sports panel immediately following the game.

Supporters groups like the American Outlaws have also called for Berhalter to leave.
