“He apologized, so what?” – Leila Djansi calls for Chef Smith competition to be canceled

“He apologized, so what?” – Leila Djansi calls for Chef Smith competition to be canceled

Renowned Ghanaian filmmaker Leila Djansi has called for the film Chef Smith to be cancelled after he admitted to fabricating a Guinness World Record.

In a Facebook post, Djansi expressed outrage at the public’s lenient response to Chief Smith’s apology, saying it undermines accountability.

Calling him a “psychopath,” she argued that Chief Smith’s actions trivialized the achievements of real record holders.

“I am appalled at how majority of people on Ghanaian social media are comforting and coddling this Chief Smith because he apologized! What is wrong with you? You are worried about your own skeletons huh? That is why there is no accountability. Cancel this man… How do you fake a Guinness World Record? By trivializing the likes of Wally Funk, Zion Clark, Malala Yousafzai.

“He’s a psychopath. How can you make a fool of an entire nation? And I heard he’s also some kind of sexual deviant. No surprise. He apologized, so what?”

Djansi compared the situation to biblical consequences, suggesting that a simple apology should not save an offender from the repercussions of his actions.

“Someone tarnishes your whole image and gets away with it because he apologized. What the hell! David sinned, confessed, apologized, and yet the child DIED. God took the child.

“People have to reap what they sow. Cancel this guy. Warm his skin… FYI: Grace is not without consequences,” she added.

She urged the Ghanaian community to take a stand against such deceptive behaviour in order to prevent future incidents and maintain integrity.

What happened

Following his highly publicized attempt at the Guinness World Record for the longest cooking marathon by an individual in March 2024, Chef Smith held a press conference at the La Palm Beach Hotel to announce his recognition by the organization.

However, it was later revealed that the Guinness Book of Records had no record of any such request or attempt on his part.

The revelation sparked a public backlash and accusations of deception, prompting Chief Smith and his assistant to issue public apologies.

In an emotional interview on GHOne TV, he expressed his deep regret, saying he just wanted the opportunity to showcase his talent and make a living.
