Manchester City ‘willing to sell’ 125-star star as Champions League rivals eye sensational move

Aston Villa could make a sensational bid to re-sign Manchester City striker Jack Grealish this summer.

The 28-year-old has not featured for Manchester City since a 5-1 win over Wolves at the Etihad Stadium in early May, with the Englishman missing the Premier League final against West Ham or the Emirates FA Cup final defeat to rivals Manchester United.

Grealish, who made just 10 Premier League starts in the recent 2023/24 campaign, was also painfully left out of Gareth Southgate’s 26-man squad for the European Championship last month, with the Three Lions reaching the semi-finals with a penalty shootout win over Switzerland on Saturday.

The forward has played just 36 times for Manchester City in the recent season and scored just three goals for the Sky Blues – Grealish’s lowest tally since joining from the Midlands in 2021 for a club record fee of £100million.

Grealish’s season was further complicated by a series of injury problems and the arrival of Jeremy Doku from Stade Rennais, although the Englishman won seven trophies including the Premier League and UEFA Champions League with Manchester City as Guardiola’s side secured a sixth title in seven years.

The 28-year-old is contracted at the Etihad Stadium until 2027 but has been linked with a possible exit from east Manchester this summer amid growing concerns after a disappointing season.

Football Insider claims Manchester City are ‘ready to sell’ the striker this summer despite the Sky Blues planning to travel to the United States for a four-match tour later this month, with the new campaign just over a month away.

The outlet reports that Etihad bosses have “concerns” over his “partying” lifestyle and would be “prepared” to allow the 28-year-old to be sold if they were able to “recoup a large portion” of Grealish’s nine-figure transfer fee.

Furthermore, Aston Villa are said to be ‘jumping’ at the chance to re-sign the 28-year-old this summer, with Unai Emery’s side competing in next year’s Champions League due to their historic top-four finish last season.

Grealish, who has been training at Juventus’ academy as part of pre-season preparations, is expected to be part of Guardiola’s squad to travel to America this month, with Manchester City facing friendlies against Celtic, AC Milan, Barcelona and Chelsea.

The Sky Blues will also begin their Premier League title defence against Chelsea in mid-August, and will face Manchester United in the FA Community Shield at Wembley Stadium next month.
