Or:South Tahoe Association of REALTORS Offices, 2307 James Avenue, South Lake Tahoe

When:Wednesday, July 17, 2024, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

“We are continuing our work to raise awareness about this unfair and misguided tax grab that does nothing to address the affordable housing challenge in our community,” said Steve Teshara of the Tahoe Chamber, co-chair of the campaign. “This would create a costly and complex administrative and enforcement burden for the City of South Lake Tahoe, which is why the majority of City Council members opposed this move.”

“We are raising funds to support the campaign and adding to our list of people who are concerned about this invasion of their privacy and interference with their property rights,” added Sharon Kerrigan, campaign co-chair for the South Tahoe Association of REALTORS®. “As written, Measure N would impact all residential property owners in the city. Renters would also be asked to provide proof of residency to determine whether or not their homeowner would be subject to the tax.”

The town hall meeting will provide a timely update with campaign leaders and a question-and-answer session on the multifaceted efforts to defeat the measure in the November general election. Individuals who would like to volunteer to support the campaign in one or more ways can sign up to do so.

The program will be available live and may be rebroadcast at a later date to ensure we can reach as many people as possible who share our concerns, keeping in mind that all residential property owners will be affected, not just those with second homes. Measure N will require every landlord to complete a declaration of occupancy under penalty of perjury. Landlords must monitor their tenants to ensure they are following the rules and each must keep records for five years in case of an audit.
