Todd Snyder Launches Premium Line Inspired by Mexico

After headlining Pitti Uomo in Florence earlier this year, American menswear designer Todd Snyder is stepping up a gear with a brand new premium brand.

“I wanted to create a new brand that would allow me to imagine more ambitious looks and then produce those styles in small batches in the best mills in Europe using premium Italian and Japanese fabrics,” Snyder said in a statement. “Creating looks for the (Pitt Uomo) show and working with the talented artists and weavers in Tuscany reminded me why I became a designer in the first place and rekindled my desire to expand creatively.”

Dubbed the “Todd Snyder Collection,” the new sub-brand will release limited runs of high-end designs twice a year. The first part, “San Cristóbal,” is inspired by the Mexico City neighborhood’s kaleidoscopic palette and Luis Barragán’s architecture. The sartorial designs include gabardine suits, double-breasted, loose-fitting jackets, relaxed pleated trousers, and belted shorts with double inverted pleats.

“The suits’ unstructured silhouettes were right at home when we shot the countryside at Luis Barragán’s Cuadra San Cristóbal,” Snyder added. “He said that any building that ‘doesn’t express serenity is a mistake.’ And that’s how I feel about the easy drape of these new suits, which, as I learned as a young tailor, is no easy feat to pull off.”

The Todd Snyder collection launches July 9 at 10 a.m. ET in stores and online. Take a look at the lineup in the gallery above.
