If you thought Amarius Mims was great, get ready to meet Georgia’s newest offensive lineman

At 6’4″, 350 lbs., Amarius Mims was one of the biggest players in the 2024 NFL Draft. Yet somehow, the former Georgia offensive tackle would be overshadowed by Kirby Smart’s latest addition to the 2025 recruiting class.

On Monday, Jahzare Jackson announced his commitment to Georgia and, more importantly, the 6-foot-2, 320-pound recruit announced that he was switching from basketball to football. Jackson played semi-pro basketball for Overtime Elite and doesn’t have much experience on the football field. However, with his massive frame, he has nearly unlimited potential and is a great fit for Georgia’s program.

Especially in the trenches, Smart has always prioritized traits that can’t be taught. You can’t teach size and you can’t teach speed, so that’s what Georgia looks for in recruiting and Smart regularly trusts his coaching staff to add technique and skill refinement. It’ll take a lot of refinement to turn a 6-foot-10 clay ball into an SEC starter and NFL prospect, but the three-star offensive tackle could still be the most intriguing piece in Georgia’s 2025 recruiting class.

Throughout March Madness, NFL media have been begging the 6-foot-1, 270-pound DJ Burns to switch to football. Now, Georgia is trying an even bigger version of that same experiment.

The question is, what is the maximum height? Richard Sligh played one season on the Raiders’ defensive line in 1967, and Dan Skipper is the tallest active player and tallest offensive lineman in NFL history at 7 feet 11 inches. Jackson will push those limits at Georgia and could even make it difficult for his quarterback.

If Jackson becomes a starting offensive tackle, then Georgia would have a hard time playing a smaller quarterback behind him. Jaden Rashada, who is 6’4″ is a viable candidate, as is Ryan Puglisi, who is 6’3″ but if Gunner Stockton, who is 6’1″ is chosen as Carson Beck’s successor, that could keep Jackson sidelined.
