Watch Maika Monroe Meet Nicolas Cage’s Serial Killer for the First Time in Longlegs

With just over halfway through the year, the award for scariest movie of 2024 could be up for grabs. That distinction belongs to Long legsNeon’s upcoming thriller involves the pursuit of a vicious serial killer.

Maika Monroe stars as Lee Harker, an FBI agent assigned to track down serial killer Longlegs, played by Nicolas Cage. Harker’s investigation uncovers supernatural evidence linked to Longlegs and his satanic murders.

None of the trailers showed Cage’s face or body in its entirety to emphasize the suspicion and intensity of Longlegs’ character. Monroe also didn’t see Cage in costume before their first scene together. Neon released a behind-the-scenes video of Monroe’s first interaction with Cage. It’s an interrogation scene where Harker, played by Monroe, enters the room and sits across from Cage at a table. Neon monitored Monroe’s heart rate for the scene. Her resting heart rate is 76 bpm before exploding to 170 bpm in the scene.

“When I walked in and saw Nicolas Cage for the first time as Longlegs, it was a visceral experience that I will never forget,” Monroe said.

Long legs The film also stars Blair Underwood, Alicia Witt as Ruth Harker, Michelle Choi-Lee, Dakota Daulby and Kiernan Shipka. Osgood Perkins writes and directs Long legs. Perkins is the son of horror legend Anthony Perkins, who starred as Norman Bates in PsychoProducers include Cage, Dan Kagan, Brian Kavanaugh-Jones, Dave Caplan and Chris Ferguson.

Initial reviews for Long legs have been overwhelmingly positive. Perkins’ horror film currently has a 97% score on Rotten Tomatoes and a 79% on Metacritic.

Long legs hits theaters on July 12, 2024.
