Real Madrid could be forced to enter the transfer market for a new goalkeeper this summer as Andriy Lunin eyes a possible departure.

The 25-year-old has had a fine season in 2023/24, making the most of his opportunities in the absence of Thibaut Courtois. But with the Belgian back, he once again becomes the number 2 at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Lunin has therefore set a condition for his stay at Real Madrid: to be a starter, which seems unlikely, making a transfer outside very likely.

Diogo Costa, an option for Real Madrid?

AS now reports that Andriy Lunin’s agent Jorge Mendes will meet with the board to discuss the Ukraine international’s future at Real Madrid.

Should the 25-year-old goalkeeper leave the club, Mendes himself could offer possible options to replace him at the Santiago Bernabeu.

And, according to the report, one of those options the superagent could offer to the Meringues is the goalkeeper of FC Porto and Portugal, Diogo Costa.

The 24-year-old goalkeeper made headlines for his special performance for Portugal in the UEFA Euro 2024 round of 16 tie against Slovenia – where he made some stunning saves in the penalty shootout.

André Villas-Boas, the new president of FC Porto, said at a recent event that they “I had no intention of selling Diogo Costa”but it seems Mendes has other plans for the 24-year-old.

Real Madrid’s position on such a transfer is unclear at this stage, but they are exploring possible options to replace Lunin should he leave.

Chelsea’s Kepa Arrizabalaga and RCD Espanyol’s Joan Garcia have been touted as potential replacements.
