Chandler School Board Considers Placing Drug Treatment Provider in 6 High Schools

In a week, Wednesday is the first day of school for students in one of Arizona’s largest districts.

On Wednesday night, the Chandler Unified board of trustees is expected to consider bringing in an outside provider of substance abuse treatment and behavioral health services for six high schools.

If the proposal is approved, a nonprofit called Community Bridges Incorporated would have the green light to provide services at the six high schools through the end of June.

The documents say the nonprofit would promote drug prevention and help run a diversion program for students and families.

Among those schools is Perry High School, which the Chandler board of trustees says is a gathering place for teenagers known as the Gilbert Goons, who are accused of violence and drug activity.

Alleged threats last year against a former Perry student led to an ongoing civil conspiracy lawsuit against the alleged Goons and their parents.
