GSX 36 Center Console with 500R Power Ready for Boyne Thunder Debut

Although Kruis Retherford and his GSX Powerboats team had hoped to debut their first center-console GSX 36 powered by Mercury Racing 500R outboards at the Kuttawa Cannonball Run in late May, the boat wasn’t completed on time. That’s not unusual in the world of high-performance boat building, and it turned out to be something of a blessing, as debris in the water and stormy weather disrupted the eighth annual Kentucky event.

But the 500-hp triple outboard is now ready and waiting in Boyne City, Michigan for the 21st annual Boyne Thunder Poker.

“I couldn’t be more impressed with the performance and handling of our triple Mercury Racing 500-equipped GSX 36,” said Retherford, who owns the company and was the subject of a Speed On The Water/Scrapyard Media documentary video last year.

Painter Paul Boyden of Pensacola, Florida, dressed the 36-foot boat with graphics created by Stephen Miles Design.

The boat features the reconfigured deck the company unveiled in February at the Miami International Boat Show on another 36-footer. Improvements include a new seating configuration, a walk-through transom and higher gunwales.

From a design created by Stephen Miles, Paul Boyden took care of the painting of the center console.

A lifelong enthusiast of performance boats, Retherford is delighted with the boat’s performance.

“It’s no secret that my team has worked diligently to be able to build a high-end performance boat, but one that offers the security of stable and safe sailing,” said Retherford. “With all the adjustments we’ve made to our build process and hull design, I believe we’ve achieved that.”

“I am delighted that everyone can discover this adventure,” she added.

The boat’s reimagined deck features a new seating configuration, a walk-through transom and higher gunwales.
