“If we take it for granted…” Eric Garcetti’s message on India-US relations after Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Russia

U.S. Ambassador to India Eric Garcetti spoke on July 11 about U.S.-India relations. In a speech, he said, “It’s important for us, Americans and Indians, to remember that the more we invest in this relationship, the more we’re going to get out of it. The more we insist on some kind of cynical calculation instead of a relationship of trust, the less we’re going to get out of it. As I also remind my Indian friends, while this relationship is broader and deeper than ever, it’s not yet deep enough that if we take it for granted on the Indian side with America, I’m fighting a lot of defense battles to try to move this relationship forward.”
