Christina Fulton has broken her silence after her son, Weston Coppola Cage, was arrested for allegedly assaulting her during a mental health crisis.

Weston, 33, the son of Fulton and actor Nicolas Cage, was arrested Wednesday on a charge of assault with a deadly weapon, Los Angeles police confirmed. He was later released the same day.

The scuffle between Weston and Fulton took place on April 28 in the Los Angeles area, when a verbal argument reportedly escalated into a physical dispute.

“On April 28, 2024, at approximately 5:30 p.m., I received urgent messages from friends of my son, Weston Cage, regarding his deteriorating mental state, urging me to come help him,” Fulton said in a statement obtained by People.

“When I arrived to support and console him, he was already in a fit of rage. A few minutes later, I was brutally attacked and suffered serious injuries,” she said.

“Despite my desperate pleas to the responding officers to detain him for a mental health assessment, the officers refused my request.”

Fulton added in her statement: “As a mother, I am deeply saddened and concerned by Weston’s current mental health crisis.

“It is imperative that he receives the help he desperately needs,” she concluded.

The LAPD confirmed that Weston was arrested Wednesday for assault with a deadly weapon — just weeks after his mother was spotted with intense bruising on her face.

The LAPD also confirmed to People that the arrest was made in direct connection to the alleged altercation on April 28.

Police told People: “During the incident, Cage struck two victims multiple times, causing injuries. LAPD responded and, after meeting with all parties, a police report was taken.”

Weston turned himself in and was arrested at the 77th Precinct in Los Angeles, according to People.

Weston’s case was submitted to the district attorney’s office on May 10, and on June 26, the prosecutor filed two counts of assault with a deadly weapon against him. An arrest warrant was subsequently issued.

The actor was released on $150,000 bail around 10 a.m. The Sun newspaper reported that his father had posted his bail.

A source previously told The Sun of the arrest: “The family knew this was coming but it goes without saying it’s a huge shock,” a source close to the family told the outlet.

An ambulance was reportedly called to the home to check on Fulton, but she refused to be taken to the hospital, TMZ reported at the time of the alleged incident.

Investigators said Weston was gone by the time police arrived on scene, and law enforcement was determining whether the case would be considered a felonious assault.

Sources told TMZ at the time that Fulton was trying to comfort his son, who was struggling with emotional issues.

Sources told the site that she denied allegations that the two men had argued and asked for the matter to be kept private.

The Snake Eyes actress was spotted putting coins in a parking meter with a black eye and bruises on her face in April.

There she met an unknown friend with whom she shared a hug.

The actress released a statement about the interaction with her son in May, saying: “Weston and I had no arguments prior to the incident.

“On Sunday, April 28, several of Weston’s best friends reached out to me asking for help as they were experiencing a mental health crisis at Weston’s house.”

“When I arrived I was greeted by my son who was clearly in a mental breakdown, which turned into a horrible experience”

“I have always wanted to help my son overcome his mental health issues. I do everything I can to give him the ongoing support he needs,” Fulton added.

This isn’t the first time the National Treasure actor’s son has had trouble with the law, having been arrested in 2017 for drunk driving and hit-and-run.

Police said he hit several parked cars, signs and mailboxes before crashing his car into a tree.

After being taken to hospital, he was charged with drunken driving and arrested on $30,000 bail.

In 2011, he was charged with domestic violence after having an argument with his ex-wife Nikki Williams, according to ABC News.

Weston has been treated for mental health issues in the past.

He was hospitalized in psychiatry in 2011 after a violent incident in Los Angeles.

At the time, Fulton blamed her son’s mental health issues on the Oscar winner, saying, “Nicolas Cage has caused damage and interfered and done something absolutely horrible, and I just have to go get my son,” she told Inside Edition.

“I was the one who raised Weston. I was the one who took care of Weston. His father was very busy working as an actor,” she said.

Fulton and Cage, 60, began dating in 1988 and welcomed Weston in 1990. The couple never married and separated within a year of Weston’s birth.

Last November, Weston and Fulton, who launched a successful skin-care line, filed a lawsuit against Weston’s ex-wife, Hila Arounian, alleging she embezzled $100,000, engaged in a defamation campaign against them and sought a “fraudulent restraining order” that prevented Fulton and his family from seeing Weston’s twin daughters, Venice and Cyress.

Complaint documents obtained by Page Six state: “This type of defamation is part of a disturbing pattern of behavior in which Ms. Arounian makes false, malicious allegations against people as a means of coercion and manipulation.”

Fulton also alleges that her former daughter-in-law manipulated Weston into filing a protective order against her in 2020.

At the time of filing, neither Nicholas nor Fulton had met their twin granddaughters, who will turn four in July.

“It’s devastating not to see these children. Nicolas and I haven’t been able to see our two beautiful granddaughters since they were born. We are living a silent and horrible nightmare. It’s insane, painful, hurtful, devastating.”

Weston has two older sons, Lucian, nine, and Sorin, seven, with his ex-wife Danielle, whom he was married to from 2013 to 2016.
