Judge suspends Alec Baldwin trial to consider motion to dismiss case

The supervising judge Alec Badwin The involuntary manslaughter case suspended proceedings and sent the jury home for the weekend while it considered a motion to dismiss the case.

Baldwin’s legal team filed the motion to dismiss, accusing prosecutors of withholding evidence. The filing of the motion came as a result of testimony from Marissa Poppella crime scene technician, who told the court that Troy Teskea retired police officer, had delivered ammunition to the Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Office in March, suggesting it may have been associated with an on-set shooting that left the director of photography Halyna Hutchins dead.

Poppell later explained that the ammunition had been cataloged but never turned over to the defense or tested to see if it matched the fatal bullet that struck Hutchins.

Prosecutors argued the evidence was irrelevant to the case, calling the motion to dismiss a “wild goose chase.”

Once the jury is disbanded, the judge Mary Marlowe Sommer ordered Poppell and Rust firearms supplier Seth Kenney to testify about the ammunition used in the filming. She also ordered Alexandria Hancockthe sheriff’s lead investigator, and Jason Bowlethe defense attorney of the movie armor Hannah Gutierrez-Reedto testify. Gutierrez-Reed had already been convicted of involuntary manslaughter and sentenced to 18 months in prison,
