10-year-old girl struck and killed by school bus in neighborhood, police say

O’FALLON, Mo. (KMOV/Gray News) – A 10-year-old girl in Missouri was struck and killed by a school bus Thursday afternoon.

Authorities said the girl was struck by the bus as it turned at an intersection in a neighborhood in O’Fallon, about 35 miles (56 kilometers) northwest of St. Louis.

The girl was pronounced dead at the scene.

The school bus driver is cooperating with the investigation, police said.

“Our thoughts go out to the family and everyone affected by the tragedy,” said O’Fallon Police Sgt. Bryan Harr. “We ask for the community’s respect for the family’s privacy as we work diligently to gather all the details.”

The victim was a student in the Fort Zumwalt School District, which later released the following statement:

A GoFundMe page was made for the family, but the child’s name has not been released.
