Alex Jones has joked that if her rehearsals for The One Show were ever leaked she would be “massively cancelled”.

The Welsh presenter, 47, has worked on the BBC programme since 2010, during which time she has presented alongside Matt Baker, Jermaine Jenas, Ronan Keating and Roman Kemp.

Despite hosting a family-friendly show, Alex now says she has to filter herself every night before going on air.

Revealing that the rehearsals before the cameras started rolling were “really bad”, Alex said the thrill of presenting live “keeps her alive”.

“I love live TV because it keeps you alive. The danger of doing a job for so long is you get complacent, but live keeps it fresh,” she said during an appearance at Ferne Cotton’s Happy Place festival this weekend.

“Every night it’s different. People think it’s staged, but it’s not. And oh my God, I make mistakes. I don’t feel any pressure to be perfect, around 5pm or 7pm I put the BBC filter in.”

“Before that, during rehearsals, it’s really bad, like I have to cancel all rehearsals. Between five and seven o’clock, the filter kicks in, and I think because I’ve been there so long, I feel really relaxed. It’s like I feel at home.”

Alex added, as reported by the Daily Mail, that the BBC “would literally have to push me out” if they ever wanted to replace her.

Despite Alex’s best efforts, she was occasionally faced with gaffes and blunders on air that prompted laughter from her co-hosts and guests, as well as viewers watching at home.

A few months ago, Dame Prue Leith left Alex gasping and laughing in surprise with some fruity language about her husband, retired fashion designer John Playfair.

The Great British Bake Off legend opened up about her ITV cooking show Prue Leith’s Cotswold Kitchen and how her husband is a surprising natural in front of the camera.

But expressing her annoyance, Prue said: “I’m honestly pissed about it,” while Alex and Roman, as well as those working in the studio, could be heard gasping.

As the show cut to footage of Dame Prue’s new show, which is set in the kitchen, Alex exclaimed: “Well Prue Leith, you can’t say that on The One Show! It’s a family show!”

He could then be heard laughing with Roman and the crew as Lady Prue hastily apologized.

The One Show airs weekdays from 7pm on BBC One.
