Gillibrand pushes for federal action to help veterans cope with brain injuries from ‘blast overpressure’

Years after serving their country, American veterans silently suffer the aftereffects of blast overpressure: brain damage resulting from prolonged exposure to gunshots and other battlefield explosions, according to U.S. Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand.

As more is known about the harmful effects of blast overpressure — including conditions ranging from anxiety and depression to mental health disorders and dementia — Gillibrand is introducing the Overpressure Safety Act in the U.S. Senate to help veterans with such conditions get the care they need.
