Donald Glover Says ‘Fear’ Felt in ‘SNL’ Writers’ Room Transferred to ’30 Rock’

Donald Glover once felt the opportunity to cast on “Saturday Night Live” was a bullet he “dodged,” but now the multi-talented creator is detailing just how much of an impact “SNL” had on “30 Rock.”

The NBC sitcom was created by former SNL cast member Tina Fey and satirized while she was working on a sketch show at 30 Rockefeller Plaza, where SNL is filmed. But according to Glover, there were more parallels behind the scenes than just metaphorical mockery.

“Even though I had a great time on 30 Rock, there was one thing I didn’t want to feel too much about on 30 Rock, because I feel like it’s kind of like SNL, and that was fear,” Glover said during a recent appearance on First We Feast’s “Hot Ones.” “Writers’ rooms are a scary place. I was like, ‘Yeah, I just didn’t want to be scared in my room.’”
