Janet Jackson asks radio host to stop asking her questions

Janet Jackson, with her characteristic bluntness, asked a radio host to stop the interview questions during a recent chat for Heart Evenings with Dev Griffin. The pop legend was candid when Griffin asked her if the repetitive questions bored her.

“I don’t want to be rude, but I have to be honest with you,” Jackson replied. “Please stop asking me questions… I never thought I was giving a good interview. I really don’t like to talk, so I prefer to stay quiet and listen to other people talk, and that’s always been the case with me.”

At the end of the interview, Jackson humorously said, “Don’t ask me any questions… are we done?”

The “Rhythm Nation” icon is currently captivating audiences on his Together Again Tour across North America. Despite his tendency to shy away from interviews, Jackson has spoken about his musical inspirations, crediting his family and other renowned musicians for sparking his interest in the industry.

“I have to exclude my family because obviously that’s what spoke to me first, seeing my brothers, my sisters, my cousin Stevie (Wonder) – seeing him play was a huge inspiration,” the 58-year-old shared.

Reflecting on her musical journey, Jackson described her formative experiences. “My brothers would often take me with them when they went to concerts, and I remember seeing Earth, Wind & Fire as a kid – it was just unforgettable. I’ll never forget that. I was really blown away, by the musicality and then the whole body of work. I absolutely loved it,” she said.

She also remembers Prince concerts when she was just 20. “He played songs I didn’t know and he didn’t play songs I knew, and I thought, ‘If I’m ever going to perform at that level, I don’t want to do that. I want to at least play songs that people know, for sure.'”

Jackson’s honesty and candor, as well as her reluctance to give interviews, underscore her preference for expressing herself through music rather than words. Even as she tours the country giving memorable concerts, her reflections on her family and musical legends continue to shape her career.
