Lewis Hamilton and Lando Norris exchange in the cooling room after the Hungarian GP, which has fans talking

Lewis Hamilton and Lando Norris had a brief exchange in the cooling room after the Hungarian Grand Prix – and it got fans talking.

Norris finished second at the Hungaroring behind team-mate Oscar Piastri, having let him pass in the closing laps.

Piastri had led for the majority of the race, but McLaren’s decision to bring Norris in first for the final round of stops to cover the cars behind – giving him the undercut advantage – led to them asking the Briton to let his team-mate back in.

After a back-and-forth saga on team radio that lasted about 10 laps, Norris finally slowed to allow Piastri to pass.

Although he congratulated the Australian after the race, his response to Sky Sports F1 after the incident seems to indicate his true feelings on the matter itself.

Once they both entered the cooling room, third-ranked Hamilton struck up a conversation with Norris – and the exchange sparked plenty of reaction on social media.

Hamilton began by pointing out how fast the McLaren drivers were around the Hungaroring, to which Norris smiled before replying: “Yeah, you had a quick car about seven years ago, mate.”

Hamilton then laughed before saying: “Seven years is a long time!”

But Norris said, ‘Yeah, well, you had a fast car, you made the most of it, and now it’s us.’

“I wasn’t complaining, I was complimenting your car,” Hamilton replied.

You can see the exchange below – which sparked a lot of reaction on social media.

Norris’ second place means he closes the gap to championship leader Max Verstappen to 76 points halfway through the 2024 season.

Verstappen, who finished fifth, will visit the stewards following a collision with Hamilton, which is not under investigation, late in the race.

For Hamilton, it is his third podium in four races after winning the British Grand Prix and finishing third in Spain, with Mercedes now back among the regular contenders for the top spots after a difficult start to the season.
