Government, Molinari: “The League and Forza Italia stop teasing each other”

In an interview with “Corriere della Sera”, the leader of the parliamentary group of the Northern League Richard Molinari responds to criticism from its ally Forza Italia Antonio Tajaniwho supports the insignificance of the Northern League in Europe: “We knew that we would have no influence on the choices, which were also the result of the difficulties encountered by France, Germany and Spain. But we made it clear that we were against Ursula von der Leyen and, above all, against her program. Where is the news?”. This should be said to Tajani: “And in fact, I ask him a question: what importance does the FI have within the Popular Party if the final choice was made in the name of continuity, moreover with the enlargement to the Greens, and there was no shift to the right with the involvement of the conservatives?”.

This means that even the Azzurri are irrelevant: “No one has been able to influence the course of events in Europe in recent weeks because in the end the vetoes that condition the political dynamics of Germany, France and Spain prevailed. The FI ended up voting with the Greens and the Democratic Party. I don’t see anything to be happy about if the program we wanted to fight comes out stronger.” But the controversy does not benefit anyone: “I advise you to stop teasing. We have a solid government, we are trying to continue the work without wasting energy. The electoral campaign is over. We see that, for various reasons, none of the center-right parties have been able to influence the European dynamics.” The deputy leader of the FdI group in the Senate, Raffaele Speranzon, says that either we stop discussing or “a political question” will arise: “Discussing European choices, where even Meloni voted differently from Forza Italia, has nothing to do with the government. Let’s avoid hurting ourselves.”

After the no to von der Leyen, he does not fear reprisals: “I do not think there can be any because Europe needs Italy, a founding country that must have a role regardless of the choice of the party. We can do better and that is why we must return to the themes that are dearest to us: autonomy above all, but also security Meloni. The Prime Minister voted against because she must have noticed that the program is unbalanced to the left. You have seen that there has been no change of line, starting from the themes of the New Green Deal”, concludes Molinari.
