His parents’ support has helped him achieve many feats over the years. At the age of 12, they helped the young golfer compete in a junior event in Alabama. The result? Two years later, at age 14, he shot a final-round 66 at the Alabama State Junior Championship (age 14-18) to emerge victorious by five shots. Additionally, the golfer’s performance was the lowest ever by an athlete in the field that day, which also beat the field average by 10 shots.

The constant presence and support of Dunlap’s parents even allowed the now-pro athlete to compete in his first major championship at the age of 18. He had received an exemption into the event due to the Alabama native’s victory in the 2021 U.S. Junior Amateur, which he won by beating Cohen Trolio. Two years later, he emerged victorious in the 2023 U.S. Amateur, becoming the only player besides Tiger Woods to win both that event and the U.S. Junior Amateur. And his mother was there by his side, too.

The emotional mother rushed to hug the athlete as soon as he won the victory at Cherry Hills Country Club. She also did not break the tradition the next time when he won his first PGA Tour title at the 2024 American Express. However, during his second victory, the two were only able to enjoy the moment over the phone.
