KISD Trustees to Meet in Workshop Tuesday | Local News

Killeen ISD trustees will meet Tuesday at 9 a.m. for a workshop meeting to discuss several important agenda items and hear from District 54 State Representative Dr. Brad Buckley, who will provide a legislative update.

Buckley also serves as chairman of the House Public Education Committee and the Select Committee on Educational Opportunity and Enrichment.

Trustees will also review reports from the Board Audit Committee meetings. On April 29, they discussed considerations for next year’s audit plans and the progress report on teacher time evaluation. At a June 17 meeting, they discussed the governance audit and a cost proposal for next year’s audit plans.

Gibson Consulting Group, Inc. is scheduled to present the 2023-24 Internal Governance Audit by Will Hardaway, Senior Consultant. It contains 12 recommendations that Gibson makes to district administrators and administration to achieve the audit objectives.

Trustees will also discuss details of two memoranda of understanding. The first is with Central County Services to allow CCS staff to provide mental health services on KISD campuses to KISD students who are CCS clients. The second is with Fort Cavazos for the Youth Sponsorship Program through September 2029.

A draft student code of conduct will be presented to the board for discussion Tuesday. It includes procedures for the new Yondr e-pouch program that will be implemented this year and an updated procedure for student vaping of nicotine products.

Another item on the agenda is homeschooling waiver requests for the upcoming school year, which includes a measure delegating authority to the superintendent to approve and submit all related waiver requests.

Administrators will review updates to the Texas School Boards Association policy manual and their impact on local policies.

The agenda also includes the list of alternate district hearing officers for the coming year and the agendas for the next three school board meetings, in draft form. Agendas are posted in final form 72 hours before any scheduled meeting.

Tuesday’s meeting will be held in the conference room of the administration building at 200 NWS Young Drive.
