Driver charged after fatal DUI crash in Murfreesboro

An incident on South Church Street in Murfreesboro has led to vehicular homicide charges against a driver accused of driving under the influence.

Lora Allison Tenpenny, 23, was reportedly driving her Jeep the wrong way in the northbound lane when she collided head-on with a BMW Thursday evening.

The 28-year-old BMW driver died as a result of the collision. Tenpenny’s car flipped on its side and both she and her passenger were taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

An off-duty Williamson County sheriff’s deputy reported Tenpenny as a possible drunk driver moments before witnessing the crash. He and off-duty Murfreesboro Fire Rescue Captain Karl Daigle immediately rushed to help after witnessing the incident, pulling the BMW driver from his car and performing CPR until emergency responders arrived.

Tenpenny now faces charges of vehicular homicide, felony reckless endangerment and driving under the influence. She was released after posting $72,000 bail.
