Man fatally shot by officers after allegedly brandishing a chainsaw

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Va. (WDBJ) – A man has died after being shot by officers during an altercation on Saturday, according to the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office.

Officers received reports of a man setting a house on fire in the 3800 block of Stanley Road.

According to officers, the suspect then fled into the woods and threatened officers with a chainsaw, claiming he also had a firearm.

Officers say the suspect, later identified as Joshua Gallimore, 43, was shot by officers and pronounced dead at the scene.

According to the officers, no further injuries were reported.

The incident remains under investigation by Virginia State Police.
