WIP – 1U, Optiplex mini enclosure with rails

I decided to build a custom enclosure for a few optiplex mics.

I was going to start with a generic shelf, but it was pretty flimsy, so I decided to build a drawer from scratch out of 16 gauge steel.

However, a work in progress, requiring more sanding, cleaning and painting.

But the fit is perfect. Both units fit very well and are not likely to fall off or slide around. You can turn them around and they won’t move.

I have some rails, which will be added tomorrow.

There is also plenty of room for power supplies and cables. The weight of everything on top is not an issue either. You can park a car on top of it.

Anyway, I should have finished taking pictures this weekend to share, after I spruced it up.
