Be ‘WOW’-ed by this hilarious and empowering live show

PETALING JAYA: What happens when you put three queens of the entertainment industry together and give them free rein to talk about anything? You get sharp repartee, no-holds-barred personal anecdotes, and heart-to-heart sharings.

Such have been the results of “The WOW Show”, a colorful lifestyle podcast hosted by stand-up comedian Joanne Kam, radio host and producer Shazmin Shamsuddin, and iconic performer Ning Baizura.

“Good things come in threes”, as the saying goes, and the proof is in the podcast, with the lively banter among the three resulting in some very entertaining – and sometimes saucy! – moments.

Well, this month, fans can experience the podcast on a whole new level, as “The WOW Show” goes live!

“Ning, Shaz and I have been running the show for three seasons already. And every time we do a touching or relatable story, our friends always say, ‘Oh, how nice it would be if we could meet you’,” Kam told FMT Lifestyle.

“So I decided, why not do a live show, where the audience can be fully immersed in the magic of ‘WOW’?”

Produced by PODaBOOM, “The WOW Show” – WOW standing for “women on women” – features insightful discussions on female-centric topics, including motherhood, physical and mental health, love, dating, career, and current events.

Having kicked off in January, the podcast airs new episodes every Wednesday on Youtube, Spotifyand Apple Podcasts.

As for the live show, audiences can expect a fun “sofa session” with the three hosts, where nothing is taboo or too off-limits. There will also be rib-tickling skits by writer and comedian Shamaine Othman.

“Joanne and I like to use comedy to talk about things related to women. If you make something funny, it’s more accessible; people won’t get shocked. We like providing a safe space for women and our allies to understand one another,” Shamaine said.

Also get ready for two special guests: a sexologist and a psychologist. (“It’s like the setup for a joke,” Kam said with a laugh.)

All three hosts believe women shine the brightest when they are supported by men and allies, which is why “The WOW Show Live” will also feature appearances by funnymen Papi Zak and Kael, as well as Sheikh Irfan Mansor and Izzaldin K.

Apart from mirth and meetings of the mind, you can’t have Ning on stage and not expect her to sing, can you? The legendary “Antara Kita” and “Kau Dan Aku” singer will perform remixed versions of some of her greatest hits, as well as a new original song.

Going on stage may be second nature for Ning and Kam, a prominent comedian who has performed in numerous sold-out shows and festivals. It will, however, be the maiden voyage for Shazmin, a veteran of 25 years in broadcast radio.

“I’ve always been a private person, so the other two have really tried to get me out of my shell. I’m excited to go. In the words of Diana Ross, I’m coming out – on stage, of course!” Shazmin laughed.

Kam concluded by inviting everyone to check out “The WOW Show Live”, saying it’s “truly one of a kind”.

“It will really give you a taste of how our podcast can be. Laughter is universal, so come and have a great time!” she said.
