Charges ‘likely’ for driver involved in fatal motorcycle crash, Akron police say

AKRON, Ohio (WOIO) – A 72-year-old motorcyclist was killed Friday evening after colliding with a truck, Akron police said in a news release.

Akron police responded to a crash at South High Street and Selle Street around 6 p.m

When officers arrived, they found a 72-year-old man with serious injuries, according to the statement.

The man was taken to hospital where he later died.

After further investigation, officers determined the man was driving his motorcycle southbound on High Street when he was struck by a Ford F-150 traveling eastbound on Selle Street, the release said.

Akron police said the 25-year-old driver of the truck ran the stop sign and caused the crash.

Police said speed and alcohol are not believed to have contributed to the crash.

The investigation is ongoing, but charges are likely, police said in a news release.
