Weekend Metro Phoenix Highway Work Includes Nighttime Narrowing of I-17

Improvement projects will require lane closures or restrictions along portions of Phoenix-area highways this weekend, Oct. 11-14, according to the Arizona Department of Transportation.

Nighttime restrictions on Interstate 17

ADOT continues to work on its road improvement project along Interstate 17 between Happy Valley Road and State Route 74.

Northbound I-17 will be reduced to one lane (open right lane) between Jomax Road and Loop 303 from 9pm to 5am on Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights.

I-17 southbound will also be reduced to one lane (open left lane) between State Route 74/Carefree Highway and Loop 303 from 9 p.m. Friday to 9 a.m. Saturday, 9 p.m. Saturday to 9 a.m. Sunday and 9 p.m. Sunday at 5am. I’m Monday.

I-17 southbound on- or off-ramps at Dove Valley Road and Loop 303 will be closed at times during nighttime work primarily on the weekend.

ADOT recommended that motorists traveling on I-17 in these areas allow more time and consider traveling when restrictions are not in place.

Interstate 10 eastbound closure

Eastbound I-10 will be closed between State Route 143 (Hohokam Expressway) and Ray Road from 10pm Friday to 4am Monday for paving and bridge work as part of the Broadway Curve Improvement Project.

The southbound SR 143 ramp to eastbound I-10 will be closed.

The westbound I-10 ramps to eastbound US 60 (Superstition Freeway) and northbound SR 143 will be closed.

The southbound I-17 ramp to eastbound I-10 at the “Split” interchange near Sky Harbor Airport will also be closed.

Most ramp closures will begin at 8 p.m. Friday, according to ADOT.

ADOT says drivers may consider using eastbound Loop 202 (Red Mountain Freeway) to southbound Loop 101 (Price Freeway) and Loop 202 (Santan Freeway) in the Chandler area to get to I-10 eastbound. east beyond the closure.

Travelers on I-10 in West Valley may consider using south/eastbound Loop 202 (South Mountain Freeway) to avoid the closure, according to ADOT.

While the westbound I-10 ramps to eastbound US 60 and northbound SR 143 are closed, ADOT suggests using eastbound Loop 202 (Santan Freeway) in Chandler to northbound Loop 101 (Price Freeway ) to reach eastbound US 60 or to reach eastbound Loop 202 in Tempe.

US 60 westbound closure

Westbound US 60 (Superstition Freeway) will be closed between Loop 101 (Price Freeway) and I-10 from 10pm Friday to 4am Monday for bridge and signal work.

The Westbound US 60 on-ramps at Country Club Drive, Alma School Road and Dobson Road will also be closed. Most ramp closures will begin at 8pm on Friday.

ADOT tells drivers to consider using northbound Loop 101 to westbound Loop 202 (Red Mountain Freeway) to get to Sky Harbor Airport and downtown Phoenix.

Loop 101 Closures in West Valley

Northbound Loop 101 (Agua Fria Freeway) will be closed between I-10 and Thunderbird Road in West Valley from 9pm Friday to 1pm Saturday for pavement sealing.

Southbound Loop 101 will be closed between Thunderbird Road and I-10 from 9pm Saturday to 1pm Sunday for the same reason.

Drivers should consider using northbound 91st or 99th Avenue, according to ADOT.

Crews plan to reopen Loop 101 in sections as work progresses. Northbound will begin reopening on Saturday and southbound on Sunday, according to ADOT.
