Protest against the murder of a doctor in Calcutta

The state and Central governments should ensure that doctors and medical students have a safe working environment where they can work without fearing for their own safety, Kerala Government Medical College Teachers’ Association state president Rosnara Begum said in a statement issued here on Monday (August 12, 2024).

She was inaugurating a protest at the Government Medical College in Thiruvananthapuram against the brutal murder of a doctor at RG Kar Medical College in Kolkata, as part of the nationwide protests called by various professional organisations of doctors.

In Kerala as in other states, laws made for the protection of health workers are more respected in violationand healthcare workers, who are supposed to save lives, have to fear for their own safety. Even the legal protection given to healthcare workers by the courts is not being extended by many state governments and the police, KGMCTA said in a statement here

The KGMCTA has demanded immediate justice in the Kolkata incident.

The KGMCTA and various medical organisations participated in the event.
