Mitsotakis: Focus on coordinated response and support measures

Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis led an hour-long meeting to discuss the ongoing response to the wildfires that have severely affected northeastern Attica.

The meeting, held at the Ministry of Climate Crises and Civil Protection, focused on assessing the damage and planning support measures for the affected areas.

During the meeting, officials provided an initial assessment of the damage.

Less than 10% of the burned areas were forested and fewer than 100 buildings were damaged, most of them non-residential.

Discussions also focused on the restoration of affected areas, with an emphasis on state aid to victims, support for affected municipalities and compensation for agricultural and livestock losses, which will begin immediately.

Particular attention was paid to the success of the evacuations carried out and the condition of the medical facilities evacuated.

The facilities are expected to resume operations in the coming days.
