After being expelled from the Congress party for anti-party activities, Aba Bagul, a rebel candidate from Parvati Assembly constituency, finally broke his silence and questioned the party leadership.

Bagul, who was not given a ticket by Parvati, asked why senior leaders had not approached him before the November 4 deadline for withdrawing candidacies.

“Why did they remain silent until November 10? The last date was November 4 (for withdrawing candidacies). Before that, you met someone (referring to the rebel candidate), tried to convince them (to withdraw their nomination)? ” said Aba Bagul.

Bagul also expressed disappointment that he was promised a four-year ticket but was overlooked by senior leaders of the party. He alleged that senior leaders in the state were trying to weaken the Congress party saying, “You have been appointed to lead the Congress; don’t try to own it.” Bagul is currently in hospital and said he would resume campaigning soon.

The Parvati Assembly constituency seat was allotted to collation partner NCP-SP, where Ashwini Kadam has been fielded as a candidate against sitting BJP MLA Madhuri Misal.

Meanwhile, apart from Bagul, Congress has also suspended Kamal Vyavahare and Manish Anand for six years. Vyavahare has revolted against party candidate Ravindra Dhangekar in Kasba Peth seat, while Anand has revolted against Datta Bahirat in Shivajinagar constituency.

Pune City Congress president Arvind Shinde said the three had earlier been given a 24-hour ultimatum to withdraw their nominations from the respective Assembly constituencies. “Since the three refused to comply, they will now be expelled from the party for six years. A resolution has also been passed by the MVA to ensure that these candidates and their family members are not accepted by any MVA affiliated party in the future municipal or state boundaries. elections,” he added.
