Ex-PL referee drops two-word ban after Liverpool ‘sh*t’, Klopp ‘c**t’ video

Ex-PL referee drops two-word ban after Liverpool ‘sh*t’, Klopp ‘c**t’ video

Ex-Premier League referee Keith Hackett has given his verdict on whether David Coote should have been banned after criticizing Liverpool and Jurgen Klopp.

A controversial video appeared on Monday Koete leaked online. During this video, the Premier League official was asked what he thought of a particular Liverpool performance. To which he replied: “Liverpool was sh*t”.

Coote then tore into the former Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp, explaining why he is an “absolute c**t”. He added: “C**t, absolute c**t. Apart from right-clicking me when I was fighting Burnley during lockdown, he accused me of lying and then just punched me.

“I have no interest in talking to someone who is damn arrogant. I’m trying my best not to talk to him…my god, you German bastard. F*** me.”

Coote has had his fair share of clashes with Liverpool in recent years. He was in charge of the 2-0 win against Aston Villa last weekend and controversially decided not to punish Leon Bailey for an apparent foul on Mo Salah in the build-up to Darwin Nunez’s goal.

He was also on VAR duty for the Merseyside derby in October 2020. During this match, he left goalkeeper Jordan Pickford on the pitch after his tackle on Virgil van Dijk left the centre-back with an ACL injury.

After this video surfaced, the PGMOL suspended Coote, who initially denied any wrongdoing, saying the “viral video he appears in is not real.”

However, Coote ‘later accepted that the viral video he appears in is real’, but “it is believed that he does not remember the content of the discussion, which was recorded several years ago.”

Hackett has given his opinion on the situation in Coote in an interview with Football insider.

After watching the video, Hackett’s blunt position is that the PGMOL had “little choice” but to suspend Coote.

“The PGMOL had little choice after seeing this video but to suspend and investigate this matter,” Hackett said in an interview with Football Insider.

“The professional referees are members of UNITE, and the referee will undoubtedly be supported by them during this difficult time for him.

“Having had to suspend two referees while in charge of PGMOL, I can say that the investigation process was extremely thorough and the outcome was that both referees were reinstated.”

Former Liverpool midfielder Danny Murphy thinks Coote is “done” as there is “no way back”.

“As a player I would feel more insulted and angry wondering if his intentions are being compromised because of his apparent contempt for the manager.

‘Does this deprive us of fair dealing? That is a heavy burden to bear. I believe many players would share my anger if they thought about such thoughts.”

Murphy added: “He will not be refereeing again. It’s over for him. There is no way back. He’s ready.”
