The entire Silent Hill 2 run will take over 20 hours

While the standard Silent Hill 2 playthrough should take between 16 and 18 hours, Bloober Team has announced that for the completionists among you, it will take upwards of 20 hours “to find everything the team has put into the game and the things we have hidden for you.”

Silent Hill recently received a story trailer which shows players some of the game’s most iconic characters, such as Eddy and Mary. In terms of playtime, Mateusz Lenart, Silent Hill 2’s creative director and lead designer, posted on the number of secrets hidden in the corners of the game.

In his tweet, he used a series of emojis referencing Silent Hill 2’s six endings while teasing the audience, saying that there would be “no spoilers, not even through emojis.” In a series of other posts on X, he spoke about some of the proudest moments he’s had since working on Silent Hill 2.

However, it’s important to note that Mateusz Lenart has stated that the 20-hour runtime likely won’t include the New Game Plus and all endings, making the runtime for each ending even longer, if you want to go full-on completist.

Initially, hardcore Silent Hill 2 fans were concerned about the game being in the hands of Bloober Team, feeling that they could very easily do the franchise a disservice. While they have created successful games such as the Layers of Fear franchise, they have also created games such as Blair Witch and The Medium, which have not been as successful.

However, previews of Silent Hill 2 have been released, and journalists have been able to check out the first two hours of the game. So far, reviews have been incredibly upbeat about the game’s first two hours, with some even detailing the new content appearing in Silent Hill 2. It’s unclear if this means there will now be additional endings to obtain. From the previews, it all looks very positive, with Unreal Engine 5 being a real asset to the game’s dark and overwhelming atmosphere.

Additionally, the iconic survival game will be getting a new combat style, which could be a positive or negative, depending on how Silent Hill fans feel about it. The style is somewhat clunky in the original, and the camera angles often do the player a disservice.

The game is scheduled to release on October 8, 2024. A Digital Deluxe Edition will also give eager players two days of early access before the game’s official public release. Silent Hill 2 will be released on PlayStation 5 and PC, with no word on whether it will be released on Xbox Series X|S in the future.
