Family of 2021 Nashville murder victim reacts to suspect’s arrest

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — The arrest of a suspected killer has brought a Nashville family closer to justice.

Investigators said Tyrone Walker shot and killed Cecil Holmes Jr. in an Edgehill Homes parking lot in 2021. Earlier this month, Walker was arrested after a short police chase.

His brother, Darrell Holmes, told News 2 he remembers the day his brother was killed like it was yesterday.

“It’s very unfortunate the way things turned out,” Darrell said. “I hate that my brother is not here anymore.”

Darrell said he and his brother were close. That’s why he said the moment Cecil took his last breath, he woke up from a deep sleep and panicked.

“My heart was pounding and I was looking around thinking, ‘Calm down, nothing’s going on,’” Darrell said. “Then I went downstairs to bed and about 15 minutes later my mom called me.”

City police said Walker pulled the trigger and left Cecil for dead. Earlier this month, detectives spotted Walker getting into a car and followed him. After a short chase, they arrested him.

Darrell told News 2 that Walker and his brother did not know each other.

“He’s getting everything he deserves, I can say that,” Darrell added. “I’m saying that as far as the time he’s going to serve and the sentence he’s going to get, I hope he serves it day by day and all the way to the end.”

Keasha Holmes is Cecil’s daughter.

“It took a long time, but it felt good that we finally got justice for him,” Keasha said.

The family plans to attend the court hearings.

“I wish I could talk to him every day,” Keasha said. “I wish I could see him and hug him. I miss him.”

His family is devastated to know that Cecil will not see his grandchildren grow up.

“He doesn’t see his daughters growing up,” Darrell said. “He doesn’t see any of this because of this nonsense.”
