Mumbai Police:Four Mumbai Police personnel were suspended on Saturday after CCTV footage allegedly showed them hiding drugs on a man during a raid. A senior police official said a sub-inspector and three officers of the Mumbai Police’s anti-terrorism cell have been suspended with immediate effect, pending further investigation.

A CCTV video has gone viral on social media. It shows four plainclothes policemen carrying out a raid in Mumbai’s Kalina area. During the raid, one of the policemen can be seen slipping something into the back pocket of the suspect, later identified as Daniel.

A PTI report, citing sources, said that the four policemen, attached to the anti-terror cell of Khar police station, raided an open ground in Kalina area of the city on Friday night and arrested a man named Daniel.

After the video went viral, Daniel told a local news channel that the cops allegedly threatened to frame him in a case under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, but later released him after realising that their actions had been caught on CCTV.

Another person, apparently an associate of Daniel, told a news channel that he was targeted at the request of a builder over a dispute over the land where the incident took place.

Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone XI) Rajtilak Roshan said that the four policemen have been suspended pending a departmental inquiry, adding that disciplinary action has been initiated against them for not following due procedure and for suspicious actions as shown in the video.

“They reached the spot after receiving information about drugs, but whatever they did is visible in the CCTV,” the DCP was quoted as saying by PTI.
