The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) paid tribute to the Wayanad landslide victims on the first day of its three-day coordination meeting that began in Palakkad on Saturday. The meeting was attended by 300 Sangh Parivar leaders, as well as Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) chief JP Nadda, who for the first time after his controversial remark ahead of the Lok Sabha elections in which he had said the BJP no longer needed the RSS as the party was capable enough, met RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat.

Mr Nadda had a closed-door meeting with Mr Bhagwat on Friday evening which lasted for around 25-30 minutes, sources said.

On the first day of the meeting, leaders of seven RSS affiliated organisations presented their assessments of the past year and detailed their plans for the coming year. They briefly discussed current affairs in the country, social transformation and projects of national interest.

On Sunday, Mr Nadda, accompanied by BJP organisation general secretary BL Santosh and joint organisation general secretary Shiv Prakash, will brief the meeting on the BJP’s achievements as the party managed to win a third consecutive term at the Centre in June this year, and also explain what forced the return to a coalition government after a decade.

Also present at the meeting were RSS general secretary Dattatreya Hosabale and joint general secretaries Krishna Gopal, CR Mukund, Arun Kumar, Ram Dutt Chakradar, Atul Limaye and Alok Kumar. The leaders of RSS branches including Rashtra Sevika Samiti, Vanvasi Kalyan Ashram, Vishwa Hindu Parishad, Bajrang Dal, Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad and RSS women’s wing chief Shantakka.

A briefing on the preparations for the RSS centenary celebrations, which will begin on Vijayadashami in the Hindu calendar in 2025 and continue till Vijayadashami in 2026, was also held.
