Man killed in shooting outside Hillcrest High School in Country Club Hills identified as police searched for wanted car

COUNTRY CLUB HILLS, Ill. (WLS) — Parents respond to a high school student who witnesses the murder of his own father right before his eyes, as County Club Hills police continue to search for the suspects.

Grief counselors are available Tuesday in Prairie-Hills District 144 after a parent was killed during a school sporting event last weekend.

“I’d like to know what the motive would be for that… that you would come and shoot someone in front of his child and in front of other children. And so I think it should help them,” parent Bishop Williams said.

On Saturday afternoon, police said suspects wearing masks and hoodies waited for the victim in the Hillcrest High School parking lot and shot 41-year-old Shamaree Siller in front of his high school-age son as they left a basketball tournament.

“I mean, it was our kids’ basketball team that was there, so… A very scary situation as a parent, very scary,” parent Wes Casper said.

“It’s just inappropriate, unheard of and just disappointing,” Williams said.

It is the second shooting at that school in just over a year.

“It really hurts my heart that this child had to witness his father being shot in the parking lot,” said parent Shay Hollins. “I’m just really praying for his family.”

Police has released surveillance photos of the wanted vehicle, a black Infiniti Q50 sedan.

They said there is no evidence of a dispute within the school… or that the suspects ever entered the school that afternoon.

Shay Hollins has children at both Prairie-Hills and Hillcrest High School. She said she would like to see more police presence and protection given the growing concerns.

“It shouldn’t happen this way,” Hollins said. “The police station is literally across the street, we have to do better. We have to.”

A school spokesperson said police were at the school during Saturday’s basketball tournament and said they prioritize safety at all school events, including sporting events.
