Two Rockford teens charged after police say they found a loaded AR-15

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) – Two teens are facing charges after police reportedly found a loaded AR-15 during a traffic stop.

A 17-year-old is charged with two counts of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, no valid FOID, obstruction of identification and outstanding warrants.

A 15-year-old is charged with two counts of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, no valid FOID and resisting arrest.

Just after 8:30 a.m., Rockford police said they attempted to stop a vehicle near Main St. and Belmont Ave. when the 15-year-old driver got out of the car and ran away.

Police say he was taken into custody shortly afterward and they found a loaded AR-15 pistol.

Police said the other person in the vehicle was the 17-year-old who was also arrested.
