Marvel’s Blade Cancellation Rumors Addressed in New Update – Comic Book Movies & Superhero Movie News

Rumors are circulating about the potential cancellation of the next Blade The film will star Oscar winner Mahershala Ali. But a recent update suggests that the project is still in the works at Marvel. Talks about the film have been around since 2013, but it has undergone numerous director and screenwriter changes over the years and now appears to be stuck in development limbo. Additionally, after Wesley Snipes reprised his role from New Line Cinema’s Deadpool & Wolverine films, there have been calls for an MCU Blade solo film starring Snipes, including from Deadpool himself, Ryan Reynolds.

Blade Gets Brief Official Update From Marvel’s Head of TV

Brad Winderbaum, Marvel Studios’ head of streaming, television and animation, indicated in a recent interview that the Blade movie is still on the cards at Marvel. He was talking about Marvel’s overall approach to horror and mentioned Blade as one of the upcoming projects in the genre.

In addition to Blade, Agatha All Along, which will debut on Disney Plus on September 18, 2024 and continues the story of witch Agatha Harkness, will feature many horror elements, as will Marvel Zombies, a Disney Plus animated miniseries. However, each of their horror elements will be distinct from the others, according to Brad Winderbaum.

“I think it comes from the director’s intention,” Winderbaum told Entertainment Weekly. “The horror on screen in Agatha is going to be different than the horror on screen in Marvel Zombies, is going to be different than the horror on screen in Blade. It was different than the horror on screen in Moon Knight,” he added.

“It really depends on the vision of the filmmaker and the elements of horror that you’re using. And that’s not unique to horror. That’s unique to every genre that we play with. There are obviously a lot of different ways to tell a story,” Winderbaum concludes.

Blade is still scheduled to be released on November 7, 2025. But at San Diego Comic-Con 2024, Marvel boss Kevin Feige teased three films the studio would release in 2025. He mentioned Captain America: Brave New World, Thunderbolts*, and Fantastic Four: First Steps, but didn’t say anything about Blade, leaving fans wondering if it could be delayed. However, with what Winderbaum said, fans can rest assured that Marvel still intends to make the Blade movie.

It remains to be seen whether the film will keep its planned 2025 release date or be pushed back to 2026.
