Explorers set to face Fargo in playoffs

The Sioux City Explorers have an American Association playoff rematch with the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks starting tonight, September 4 at 7:05 p.m. at Mercy One Field at Lewis and Clark Park.

The game was set when the Winnipeg Goldeyes, as winners of the West Division, selected the Sioux Falls Canaries as their first-round opponent, setting up a matchup between the third- and fourth-place teams in the division.

The Explorers will travel to Fargo to face the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks in Game 2 of the first round of the West Division Series at Newman Outdoor Field on Friday night, September 6 at 6:30 p.m. and will play Game 3 (if necessary) on Saturday night, September 7 at 6:30 p.m. also in Fargo.

Sioux City and Fargo-Moorhead met last season in a best-of-three matchup that the Explorers won 2-0.

This season, the two teams have met 13 times, with Fargo-Moorhead winning the series 8-5. The X’s split the six games played in Sioux City while the RedHawks finished 5-2 at home in North Dakota.

This is the seventh time under manager Steve Montgomery that the team has qualified for the playoffs and the eighth time in the American Association.
