COMMUNITY NEWS: Free English classes for adults | News, Sports, Jobs


FREE ENGLISH CLASSES: Registration is now open for free adult English classes through the English Center of Youngstown. Classes run from September 16 to May 15, 2025, and are held in two-hour sessions twice a week. Morning and evening classes are open to all levels of education. Emerging level classes are held in person in the Youngstown area, and levels 1-4 are live, online. The registration deadline is September 12. The registration fee is $50. Students can register online at www.EnglishCenterYoungstown.com or call for information: 330-743-5767. This nonprofit, charitable organization has served the Mahoning Valley for over 100 years.

GRAFF TO SPEAK SEPTEMBER 11: McKinley Memorial Library presents “Capturing the Human Drama of 9/11 and D-Day Through Oral History” with Garrett Graff on Tuesday at 2 p.m. This presentation will be streamed live online.

Graff, an expert in capturing the human drama, will discuss his work with a focus on his oral histories, “The Only Plane in the Sky: An Oral History of 9/11” and “When the Sea Came Alive: An Oral History of D-Day.” Visit libraryc.org/mcklib/55737 to register for the live event, ask the presenter questions, or watch the recording afterward. OPEN HOUSE: The Moss Ancestral House, 1499 Burnett St., Mineral Ridge, will be open from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday. The Mineral Ridge Historical Society Museum across the street from the Moss House will also be open as part of the Ohio Open Doors event sponsored by the Ohio History Connection.
