‘Lock Pakistan Cricket Board officials in a room and show them Musheer Khan’s shot in Duleep Trophy’: Kamran Akmal

Former Pakistan wicketkeeper Kamran Akmal has criticised the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) for giving preference to the Champions One-Day Cup at the expense of developing young cricketers in the country. Akmal said the tournament was a waste of time and the cricket board should focus on providing opportunities to emerging talents and also follow India’s structure.

Akmal also spoke about Musheer Khan’s performance in the first match of the Duleep Trophy. The young Indian batsman scored 100 runs for India B against India A. Kamran mentioned that talented Indian cricketers are made to play against the best bowlers, and Pakistan can play a similar pattern.

“We are 8th in the ICC Test rankings. We are talking about red-ball cricket after the loss to Bangladesh. On the other hand, we have the Champions One-Day Cup coming up. Is it the right time?” one of the journalists asked Kamran Akmal.

“PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi believes that Pakistan cricket will return to its best through this tournament and we will easily beat England in the Test series. Our mentors also believe that Pakistan will get new match winners through this tournament and Pakistan cricket will progress,” replied Kamran Akmal.

Akmal lashed out at the PCB decision-makers. “The Champions One-Day Cup is a waste of time and money. It will ruin cricket in Pakistan and people will start losing interest in the sport in our country,” he added.

Akmal also praised Musheer Khan for his performance in Duleep Trophy 2024. “Musheer Khan scored 181 runs. PCB officials should be locked in a room and someone should show them Musheer Khan’s knock in Duleep Trophy. Tell them that this is how players are trained.”
