Rupali Ganguly shares cryptic messages after filing defamation suit against stepdaughter

Mumbai, November 13 (IANS): Popular television actress Rupali Ganguly shared a cryptic post about ‘silencing’ the ‘voice of people’ after filing a defamation complaint against stepdaughter Esha Verma.

Rupali took to her Instagram stories, where she shared a quote that read, “There are times when you need the silence of animals to recover from the noise of people.”

The post comes after the ‘Anupamaa’ star sent a defamation notice to her stepdaughter Esha, demanding compensation of Rs 50 crore for ‘insulting’ her character and personal life.

The legal notice was in response to Esha’s ‘false and damaging statements’ and the step was taken to protect her reputation. The notice stated that the actress is also demanding compensation of Rs 50 crore.

The notice was sent by Ganguly’s lawyer Sana Raees Khan, who was seen as a contestant on “Bigg Boss 17”.

The legal notice addresses Esha: “Our client states that she was shocked to see the posts and comments published by you on various social media platforms including Twitter (now X), Instagram and Facebook. Our client states that it is appropriate to disclose the true and correct facts leading to the issuance of this notice…”

The notice states that Rupali suffered a mental trauma that forced her to seek medical help and that she was humiliated on set and missed out on professional opportunities.

It is also said that Ganguly wanted to maintain a ‘dignified silence’ but was forced to file a defamation suit because of the way she and Ashwin Verma’s 11-year-old son were dragged along.

Ganguly, through her lawyer, has demanded compensation of Rs 50 crore, which her stepdaughter must pay. She has also immediately demanded an unconditional public apology, failing which Ganguly has threatened legal action.

The notice clarified that Rupali was friends with Ashwin Verma for 12 years before divorcing his second wife, Esha Verma’s mother, in 2009.

It was also said that the actress, along with her current husband, tried to help Esha get a break in the entertainment industry, by providing opportunities for photo shoots and making special arrangements for auditions.

It all started when a post on Reddit went viral after a user shared snippets of an old Facebook comment of Esha.

In the comment, she accused Ganguly of having an affair with her father Ashwin while he was still married to her mother and described Rupali as “cruelhearted”.

The post quickly caused a stir online, prompting Ashwin to issue a statement on X denying the claims. In response, Esha posted on Instagram, “There is a dark side to this story… All I ask for is compassion as it unfolds.”
