Neil Gaiman reportedly offers to step down from Good Omens

Neil Gaiman has offered to step down from the third season of Good omens amid sexual assault allegations against him, reports Deadline. Gaiman is the showrunner of the Amazon Prime Video series, which is an adaptation of the 1990 novel of the same name that he co-wrote with Terry Pratchett. On Monday, it was announced that production on the third and final season had been suspended after a number of women came forward with allegations of misconduct.

Gaiman has denied the allegations against him (“and it appears they are disturbed,” according to a press release). Deadline), and his offer to take a step back is specifically not an admission of wrongdoing. However, the media outlet reports that “that Gaiman made an offer to Amazon and the producers to step back from the final season so it could continue amid crisis talks over the future of Terry Pratchett’s adaptation.” The series, which stars Michael Sheen and David Tennant, was preparing to begin filming in Scotland before Prime Video pressed pause.

In July, Tortoise Media released a podcast in which two women detailed Gaiman’s assault allegations. Three more women have since come forward with their own experiences. The stories include accusations of sexual coercion, power imbalances, and, in at least one case, being silenced by a confidentiality agreement. Some of the women were significantly younger than Gaiman at the time of their encounters. In several cases, the women were Gaiman’s employees (a former nanny and groundskeeper).

Since the allegations against Gaiman came to light, several projects bearing his name have been scrapped. Last week, it was announced that Disney would not be moving forward with its adaptation of The Cemetery Book. Previously, Netflix had canceled the short-lived Dead Boy Detectivesa spin-off of Sandman. Sandman is currently still moving forward with a second season on the streamer.
