Police and JPS say Snapchat threat is unfounded | News, Sports, Jobs

Jamestown Public School District officials were made aware this week of a rumor circulating at Persell Middle School about a Snapchat message containing a threat against an out-of-area school district.

After a thorough investigation, the Jamestown Police Department determined there was no credible threat to Persell or Jamestown schools.

“We continue to proactively communicate with JPS as we both monitor this rumor,” the district said in a message to parents and posted on its Facebook page. “JPS is committed to the safety of our students and staff and will continue to communicate directly should any situation arise that may impact our schools.”

Snapchat threats to schools have been reported across the country, according to published reports, following last week’s shooting at Apalachee High School in Winder, Georgia. Several of them have been charged.
