CBI arrests former medical college principal, police officer for murder of intern doctor

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Saturday arrested Sandip Ghosh, former principal of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, and Abhijit Mondal, in-charge of Tala police station, in connection with the rape and murder of a medical intern in Kolkata.

According to sources, the CBI’s Special Crime Branch arrested Mondal for allegedly delaying the registration of the First Information Report (FIR) and Ghosh for misleading the investigation and destroying evidence by not declaring the victim dead promptly. Junior doctors celebrating the arrests were seen singing at the protest site outside Swasthya Bhavan.

Junior doctors have been demanding the arrest of Ghosh and Mondal, accusing them of tampering with evidence. After a meeting with Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee fell through due to live streaming demands, junior doctors continued their protest, demanding enhanced security measures at medical facilities.
