VINELAND, New Jersey — Two southern New Jersey football communities are mourning the loss of a young boy and a coach after a crash Thursday night.

It happened around 5:53 p.m. outside a sports complex in Vineland, New Jersey.

Police say Addiel A. Ortiz, 31, of Millville, New Jersey, was riding a motorcycle when he crashed into a Chevy Traverse.

Ortiz and a 9-year-old boy inside the Traverse, who police identified as EB, were both pronounced dead.

Lauren Beisler, the boy’s mother, who was driving the Traverse, was not injured.

According to the Cape-Atlantic Junior Football League, the accident claimed the lives of a Vineland Blitz junior football coach and an Upper Township junior football player.

ABC Philadelphia affiliate WPVI has learned that the Vineland Blitz football team was hosting the Upper Township Indians the night of the crash.

A GoFundMe page identified the boy as Easton Beisler. More than $100,000 has been raised since the fundraiser launched Friday.

“Our organization and community mourn the loss of #23, a brilliant and talented Peewee player who touched the hearts of all those around him. It is with deep sadness that we announce the cancellation of all Upper Township games this weekend,” the Upper Township Indians said in a statement to WPVI.

Beisler was a fourth-grader at Upper Township Elementary School. Grief counselors were at the school Friday to help students and staff.

“Our hearts are heavy as we remember a young life taken too soon, and our deepest condolences and thoughts go out to the family during this incredibly difficult time,” the district said in a statement.

Gandalf Sollenberger, who is on the Vineland Blitz board of directors, told WPVI that Ortiz had been a football coach for nearly five years while also working as a state corrections officer.

Known to players as “Coach Addi,” Sollenberger describes Ortiz as a loving father who enjoyed teaching kids on the field in his spare time.

“He served as a State Correctional Officer for over 10 years at Southern State Correctional Facility and Bayside State Prison. Addiel is survived by his fiancée Destiny and 4 children,” the page reads.

Both football clubs have cancelled their sporting activities for the weekend as cities continue to mourn the tragedy.
